Hey star-gazers! The week ahead grants us a celestial reprieve; fewer aspects are on deck to shake up our current trajectory, but by the close of the next month, all the major planets, with Mars and Jupiter excepted, will be retrograde, inviting us to put our lives under the microscope and reset the central processing unit of our lives.
Headline news this week remains both Venus and Chrion’s retrograde turn. Venus has kicked off its all-important synodic precursor, winding down the waning phase of its current hemicycle to start a new Venus-in-Leo cycle. To manage this celestial direction-shift best, stay the course in any relationship and money matters. Now is not the time to make big changes. Instead, be a seasoned galactic hitchiker and strive to put the “re” in “retrograde”: REconsider before you REdo anything.
On July 23, Chiron’s direction shift slides us into an important juncture. Between now and its return to forward movement in January 2024, healing potential abounds with the asteroid of wounding inviting us to scrutinize what may have injured our personal identity. In Aries, the baby of the zodiac, Chiron may call on us to attend to our inner child, or ask us to explore how our own individuality may have been stifled by obstructionist naysayers. How we stand out from the crowd and act in our best interest needs to be put front and centre, especially if we’ve prioritized the needs of others well before our own. This may become especially acute under the retrograde Chiron-Juno-in-Cancer square taking place around July 27.
On July 23, Mercury in Leo squares Uranus in Taurus, which, as far as stimulating transits that usher in new ideas go, this one can’t be beat. Mercury in Leo is invariably concerned with bold actions and courageous ideas; in this sign, it has the staying power — the most of any fire sign it occupies — to persevere when the going gets tough. Maybe it won’t help you implement your stroke of genius, but it will allow you to get it across the finish line.
While wildcard Uranus continues its shake-up in all things concerning our finances, security, creature comforts and things we value — both literally and metaphorically — this transit could see our opinions change, our thoughts veer in new directions, and an increased appetite to take on any previously and potentially life-altering musings for which we didn’t have the stomach before. Just bear in mind that both Mercury and Uranus turn retrograde towards the close of August; Mercury will be in analytical Virgo and Uranus still in pragmatic Taurus, so anything we do this month could come back to haunt us if we aren’t completely and unwaveringly committed to a single lane.
Between July 23 and July 25, Luna cruises through Libra and Scorpio. First, it sextiles Sol in a sympathetic and mildly harmonious aspect that could have us tempering any excessive self-assertion with consideration for those around us, but an inconjunct to Saturn early on July 23 could have us frustrated at certain implacable forces in our lives. Sextiles to Mercury and Venus in Leo the next day bode well for Luna’s balancing act, though a late-day square to retrograde Pluto in Capricorn could bring back conflicts with power players from our past. Expect oppositions between Luna in Scorpio and Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus on July 25–27 to challenge feelings of comfort and stability. Now is the time to make radical changes to our long-game if we’re being strategic about our hopes and dreams.
The July 27 conjunction of Mercury and Venus in Leo is a signature that I love for the myriad levels on which it can express itself. On the one hand, this can be a positive financial transit — a big idea that spells important partnerships for something requiring bold and courageous purpose. If you’re an entrepreneur that’s been thinking about monetizing your side hustle, or taking your business to the next level, this transit can stimulate a number of big ideas and harmonious pathways, even carrying any exciting plans we might have been hatching under the square to Uranus from days ago. Just be aware that Venus remains retrograde, so don’t ink any deals with potential business partners until Venus turns direct in about six weeks.
Another expression of this transit may be a bit more pleasant and pleasure-oriented. This could be a signature where you find yourself keen on exploring creative ventures — long-standing hobbies or even new activities that both express beauty and use manual dexterity or your brain box for your personal enjoyment. Either way, this is a nice little lift after last week’s crunchy Mars-Saturn-Pluto transits. With the Moon finally sliding into expansive and truth-seeking Sagittarius by the close of July 27, the energy will be ripe to revision your current outlook.
Two noteworthy transits closing out the month are all about Mercury. First, Mercury in Leo trines the North node in Aries on July 28, possibly bringing new ideas that could send us all down a different path. Embrace any synchronous events that the North Node could invite, and be sure to pursue inspirational ideas with (a cautious amount of) wild abandon.
Finally, Mercury also enters Virgo — its favourite place in the zodiac! All you Virgo risings, Suns, and Moons out there could feel a nice boost from having Hermes both in the place of its domicile and exaltation and transiting your first house. This is a nice signature to begin the month of August on, especially as Mercury is in the implementation phase of cycle.
This is a mature and seasoned Mercury — one that’s at its highest efficacy and expression in analyzing, synthesizing, processing, parsing, and providing sage counsel for any course of action. Just be aware that Mercury changes direction next month, so tread cautiously where actions are concerned lest the cosmic trickster pulls the rug out from under you when you least expect it.
