Hey star-gazers! This is your weekly astrology forecast for December 5–11, 2022, which is jam-packed with positive celestial potential! Though there are a few lumps we need to take this week, the trajectory towards year-end is, on balance, excellent. With that, let’s dive right in!
One of the major planetary movements to watch this week — or maybe seemingly planetary non-movements — is Jupiter, who remains slow after its direct station. This slowness will be a feature of Jupiter for the next few weeks, before it changes signs. Jupiter will sit on the 29th degree of Pisces, crawling forward from one minute to 22 minutes by week’s end, giving us a lot of expansive energy this week to dream big about the next leg of Jupiter’s journey through our charts.
The 29th degree of the any astrological sign is regarded as a potent degree, and while I’ve written before about its potential maleficence, I wouldn’t be overly concerned about that.
I know that some people would also point out Jupiter’s current conjunction here to the more malefic fixed star, Scheat, but, again, I think the priority should be around caution rather than worry.
Scheat is tied up with vanity and ambition, but also poor judgment, and so, I simply take that to mean that we need to be careful not to get too big for our britches this week, especially if we feel a sudden burst of empowerment. We may believe that we can take on the world, and while I’m sure we all can, we need to exercise prudence, not least because the planet of action is configured to Jupiter by a sign-based square, and also retrograde, so that’s a potential signature that could portend to our best-laid plans meeting with some friction.
This week we can all look forward to the continuing separation of the Saturn-Uranus square, which could add to any feeling of lightness, hope and possibility we might have seen emerge last week. Saturn will continue being more constructive this week, bringing its more helpful traits of sobriety, concentration, and boundary-making to the fore.
As last week’s trine to retrograde Mars separates, the Sun will apply to a sextile to Saturn by mid-week, offering us a few days from the 9th to the 12th for getting things done, moving an important personal project forward, or enjoying remarkable clarity of thought for any decisions that we need to make. Saturn will also help moderate any ostentatiousness or imprudence that the Sun in Sagittarius could feel, especially with its sign-ruler in its watery domicile, configured by a square.
Next, on December 6, Mercury will enter Capricorn, but not before squaring Jupiter one last time, potentially helping us get one final big idea, a small financial windfall, or an opportunity to put our silver tongue to use. Mercury’s entry into Capricorn may help us feel like we’re getting certain things back on track, possibly offsetting any challenges that we could have felt in the areas of mental clarity, focus, or understanding. This is a great signature to start looking at your finances under, since I know for some rising signs I flagged that this month could have a financial component to it, or for advancing some area of study — so, if you’re learning a language, pursuing a hobby, or just want to make a dent in your reading list, Mercury in Capricorn this month will help you do that.
On December 7, we have a Full Moon taking place in the sign of Gemini. This is a Full Moon that is bringing a matter to culmination that we would have seen initiated late last May under the Gemini New Moon. Expect this to be a slightly more intense lunation, given that the Moon is within six minutes of retrograde Mars.
Mars conjunct this Moon could feel some heightened frustrations owing to things that its likely trying to get off the ground, be they related to learning, communications, information, technology, or negotiations. Alternatively this could be a time where some of you could see matters come to a head with friends, extended family, siblings or neighbours.
Given the Mars-Sun opposition, this could also be a time where you could experience a greater propensity towards conflict with some of those figures in your life and, with the retrograde nature of Mars, this could be a rehashing of old wounds and wars, so be on your guard to allow calmness to prevail. The Sun-Mars opposition will linger for a couple of days, so just be aware of the heightened potential that this configuration could bring.
Additionally, the ruler of this lunation, Mercury, will be quincunx to the Moon-Mars conjunction, amplifying any irksome quality that this lunation brings, so, ultimately, take care this day to switch from coffee to tea, meditate, take deep breaths, and generally focus on keeping your emotions a bit more even-keel if you can, since you could be more likely to feel agitated. And, it probably goes without saying, but this is not a great lunation under which to do any ritual or intention work in my opinion — not with the conjunction from a retrograde malefic.
On December 9, Venus squares Jupiter before entering Capricorn the same day, following much the same pattern that Mercury did. This is a great day to make a wish for your relationship as Venus leaves Sagittarius, especially since it’s tour through Capricorn may lack some of the playfulness that it enjoyed while in the sign of the archer.
Expect a subtler, more subdued tone to descend on your relationships during Venus’ transit, or, alternatively a sudden restriction around luxury spending, It may seem odd to talk about financial belt-tightening given that we’re in December, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the vibe this Venus brings.
